Randomness 2

  • Not quite sure how I am going to survive without a car.  I have always had one since I was 15.
  • BeiJing and the hubby are in a standoff...with me in the middle.
  • Is it just me or does that picture bring to mind 'My Little Pony'.
  • I also want to print it up and color it.
  • Why is it when I just have one quick errand to run that I end up being out for hours.
  • I found the cutest little strawberry jar at Lowes.  Perfect for my herbs.
  • Have all these wonderful ideas about turning the porch into an outdoor room but they will have to wait until I have the Kia back.
  • It's not April yet.  What's up with all the showers?  Enough already.
  • I wish that I knew where all my off time goes.
  • Only one more day working in the office.  So looking forward to not have to leave the house to go to work.
  • I hope that everyone had a great Hump Day.

Book Review: Mesmerized

Andrei Solace delivers death on silent feet as an assassin for the Phantom Corps. Mercenary Piper Roundtree thought she was over him. But against the backdrop of an impending war, their passion is rekindled. Now the lovers must join forces- in more ways than one-to save the Known Universe before the Imperialist enemy hurls it into irreversible chaos.

I don't tend to read a lot of erotic romance but when I do Lauren Dane is one of my go to authors.  So imagine my delight when I started received books again for review and there was one of her's in there.  I immediately dived right in and well found myself MESMERIZED.  I am just glad that yesterday was a slower day at work so that I was able to read between calls.

I especially feel for the hero in this book.  Andrei is a good man who refuses to see that because he kills to keep others safe.  He prefers to do good deeds behind the scenes and is terribly embarrassed when caught out.  Piper is more then a match for him and their chemistry light the pages on fire.

As you can tell, I really enjoyed the book however I found the ending to be disappointing.  Ms. Dane had woven a multidimensional story yet it felt as though the ending was a rush to tie up all the threads.  I would have preferred to have seen the story arc left open and me waiting impatiently for the next in the series.

Because of the ending, this book only rates a 3.25.

Paying it forward really pays.

As I posted last, I have no car.  It died and would only go click click.  A friend of mine happens to read this blog and got a hold of me reminding me that the kid (I use to term loosely for anyone under 30) that I gave a HD TV and surround sound system too just happens to be a mechanic.  I tucked that away in my memory bank and got the starter changed.  Now all it wants to do is go wzzzzzz.  So I called Liz who in turn called the mechanic.  He is coming out tomorrow to take a look at it.  And this is all because I gave a friend of a friend a TV that I didn't want to throw away because it still worked.  I am not too sure if that was paying it forward but that good karma is sure kicking in when I need it.

The morale of the story is to help out others where you can.  You never know, they might be able to help you out in turn.

National Puppy Day

Today is my kind of day!  A day to celebrate our canine companions.  Since I share my life with four of them I decided that I wanted to share some pics of my kids.

I want a do-over

Today was supposed to be a rather relaxed day.  I just had one thing to do which was meeting with the mortgage broker and even that went a bit wonky.

Because of our party last night, I parked in our driveway which is kinda steep so there were would be room for others to park.  Well today I went to back my car out and it got stuck.  Refused to go up the hill.  It dies and won't restart.  So I called one of my best friends to help out.  Not only that I was supposed to be meeting her and the mortgage broker.

So Liz came over along with Mike, the broker.  We managed to get thru that okay.  I have some work to do to clean up my credit.  But it doesn't look all that bad.

Now back to my car.  Went and out that bought a new battery as I had been having issues with it.  Have had to be jumped a few times over the last couple week.  Unfortunately that didn't fix the issues.  Now it looks like I will have to buy a new starter.  Of course, I can't afford that until payday.

So we are going to be shuffling cars for the next few days.  Sigh....

Now I am crossing my fingers that nothing else goes wrong today.

Oh and the pic.  Just something to enjoy.

Working...working...working

Raining Mardi GrasImage by dsb nola via FlickrI haven't forgotten all of my wonderful friends here.  I have just been going into the office for the last week and will be doing so for at least another week.  Doing some new sales training which looks to be a wonderful thing.  Instead of trying to shoehorn customers into a cable/internet/phone package that best suits my needs in order to get paid, I will be getting paid for help them find a package that best suits their needs.  What a concept!

And the best thing of all, my customers are much happier which leads to less stress for myself.  I don't like to go into the office but this time it might all be worth it.

Let's see other things that are going on in my life...

Tonight was our third monthly Pagan Potluck and the theme was Mardi Gras.  It was a lot of fun.  We had the same peeps that usually show up with one addition.  There is just such great energy when this group gets together and I love that fact that I am in a place where I am able to host them.

Speaking of a great home, tomorrow I am going to see a mortgage broker about getting a mortgage on this house.  Right now I am been renting it and want to know that it is ours.  I love this house!  Both my health and my hubby's have improved since moving in.  And my animals are so much happier.  I know that a lot of people wouldn't consider that but they are a very important part of my life.  Even Kharma, my Devil Dog has mellowed out since moving here.

Speaking of health... My hubby has been fighting with issues for about five years.  I have been saying that his problems are very similar to mine with my fibro but the doctors didn't want to hear that since the percentage of men that get fibro is very low.  Well he finally was able to see a doctor that diagnosed him with fibro.  At least we now know what is going on.

Well that's about it.  I will be able to take my laptop into work next week so I will try to keep in touch more.

Book Review: Wither

When scientists engineered genetically perfect children there was an unexpected side effect.  Now all the females die at age twenty and the males die when they are twenty five.  Now girls have live in fear of being kidnapped and sold to rich men so that they can be used as broodmares.  Rhine was one of these girls.  She lives in a gilded cage with two other sister wives but a cage none the less.

I found WITHER to be a very thought provoking book.  What will happen to the future when we keep messing around with nature?  The premise is all too plausible.  Everyone dying young really reminds me of an older book, Logan's Run, while the tone of the story is reminiscent of  Flowers in the Attic

I have to admit that this has been a difficult review to write.  I really enjoyed the book though I did find the world building to be weak.  Hopefully that will strengthen in the following books,  What makes this review hard to figure out is the fact that this book is classified as a young adult where as it really deals with adult issues.  Rhine herself is young as are her sister wives but we are dealing with childbirth, kidnapping and polygamy.   I am just now too sure how that fits into the young adult genre.  If I was recommending this to a friend, I would tell them that this is a rather enjoyable book but I am not as sure about recommending to a parent.  I guess that since I have pointed out the issue it will be up to each parent to decide if they want their kids to delve into it.

I rate this book a 3.75.

It's my lucky day!

When I was going thru my email today I discovered that I won some beads from Andrew Thorton.  He has a wonderful blog The Writing and Art of Andrew Thorton where he has weekly giveaways of all kinds of neat beads, components and well everything related to making jewelry.  His blog also contains wonderful photos and tidbits about his life.  I so recommend following his blog if you don't already.

Oh and I wanted to show you what I won.  These wonderful beads are from Golem Studios.

Don't they just look delicious!  They just scream spring to me.  I already have ideas running thru my brain.  I am thinking that focal would look awesome with some kumihino braiding pulling in the colors of the bead.

More Prizes

I ended up winning three prizes all total from OWOH and they have all finally arrived!  I really wanted to get some pictures to share but I can't find the battery for my camera    That's what I get for taking it out and charging it.

The first one is from Rebecca's Rainbow Kisses.  I kidnapped a picture from her blog to give an idea of what it looks like.  Mine is all green and blue beads.  Just gorgeous!

The second one is a darling lampwork heart pendant from Bab's Beads.  I don't have a picture of it to share unfortunately but I can guarantee that it is gorgeous!  I have slipped it onto a sterling chain and I am wearing it all.

Cravendale - Cats with Thumbs

I have a cat, Sterling or as he is more commonly called Monster, who is a polydactyl.  I have noticed two things about him.  One is that he is huge.  He's only about nine months old and already around 15 pounds.  The other is that he tries to use his extra digit as a thumb.  So when I saw this video, I just had to share it.

OMG!!

Logically I know that cards are to give to people.  You give them to say thanks, or hope that they feel better.  There are some really pretty cards out there.  And I have sent some really pretty ones.  But not this time around.

I won some utterly gorgeous cards from Heidi of Heidi's Happenings.   And I mean gorgeous!  Check these out!

Thank you so much Heidi!  I am keeping these for myself.  They are going to be framed and hung in my studio.

What a day,,,,

I am so proud of myself.  I finally finished visiting all the blogs that participated in this winter's Bead Soup this morning.  I am totally in awe of some of those creations.  I want to those designers when I grow up.

And then it was off to a friend's house to help with editing his book.  It will be a great book once we get it all done.  This is definitely a new style of editing for me.  It is editing by committee though I was the only one there so early.  I have to go early now due to my massage therapy in the afternoons on Saturdays.  I must say that I sure preferred it when I got them on wednesdays.  That way I had the whole weekend clear for whatever.

Now that I am home I get to go play in my studio.  I need to finish up the necklace for my winner for OWOH.  That along with making up a pair of Goddess earrings is my goal for this weekend.

Oh I am so happy.  One of the best things about working from home is that I have lost 12 pounds not eating the cafeteria food and grazing on all the candy.  Not only do I feel sexier but I am finally able to wear heels again.  It used to be that I would be all crippled up due to my back after wearing them for a couple hours.  Today I have been wearing a pair of thigh high boots with  4 inch heels all day and I feel great!  Of course, it could be due to the massage.  Regardless I am going to put it into the win category.

So what plans do you have for this weekend?
