Beautiful Things

I am running a bit late this week.  It was just too busy yesterday to post this but here we are.

1.  Went out to for Thai food last night, all four of us and had a wonderful time.  Good conversation and good company though the roommate was surprised that his share came to $20.  Not too sure where he usually eats but that is pretty low considering where we usually go out to.

2.  I think that I am finally figuring out the new requirements for work.  I have been having issues with the new way they want us to sell and it has been worrying me.

3.  The stepkid is going home today but I actually enjoyed having him here.  Surprised me.  Looks like he will be coming back to live.

Ingredients finally arrived!!!

My partner for this BSBP is in Canada and I was really starting to get worried about the goodies that I had sent.  You see, I had mailed them out priority on 9/13 and was told that by the nice lady at the post office that it would only take 6 to 8 days for them to arrive.  I guess that they don't know how to count as they just arrived today,

So now that my partner has oohed and awed over the goodies, I can show you what I sent.

I hope that Skye has a lot of fun with them.

Book Review: Prelude to a Scandal

Marriage is not the end of desire...

Lady Justine is willing to trade her good name, her reputation and her place in London’s gossip-hungry ton to secure her father’s release from prison. But when the notorious Duke of Bradford counters her offer with a proposal of marriage, the stakes grow higher still. For while the smoldering lord is famous for his conquests, the man is oblivious to both her devotion and her charms. And Justine is soon afraid she has wagered all for naught…

Are you ready to be scandalized?

I have to admit that if all historical romances were as good as Ms. Marvelle's PRELUDE TO A SCANDAL then I wouldn't be reading other genres at all.  I just loved the fact that she started with  questioning what a sex addict would do back in the 1820s and ran with it.

We don't get to see a lot of London in this book.  It is the characters themselves that really cause it to shine.  Justine, being as she was raised in Africa, is highly unconventional and probably the only woman who would be able to help the Duke overcome his addiction.  I really enjoyed watching their relationship deepen and the Duke becoming a better man thru her love.

I do highly recommend PRELUDE TO A SCANDAL to anyone that enjoys historical romance set in the Regency period.  I give it a 4.2.

I did receive this book from NetGallery in exchange for the review.  No money exchanged hands and all opinions are my own.

Windowshopping Artfire

Don't you just love days where you can just relax?  To have the opportunity to do as you wish with no urgency to get anything done.  Where the muse is just kicking back and enjoying looking at the work of other artists.
This was the piece that really caught my attention and then I started wandering about Artfire.  I really love the fact that I can drop items that interest me into my Amazon wish list.
Gorgeous Necklace

I just love the colors in this one.  And well my love of cats is well known.  Right now my studio is kinda a mess as I still need to have the drywall finished on one way but eventually I want to have shelves put up so that I can display my pretties.  And there is always room for pictures, especially ones of cats.

Just my kinda cat

And this would be so perfect for holding my silks and knotting supplies.

Perfect for my work table!

Love these beads and her prices are so reasonable.

And they don't cost an arm and a leg!

Or I just love these.  Did I mention that you can save your wants and desires to your Amazon wish list?

So ethereal

Ooops.  I guess that I am stuck on beads right now.  I just love these colors.

Wonder how I would use these??

I hope that you enjoyed wandering about just a tiny piece of Artfire.

Beautiful

Newwandphto dpi 400 3''Image via WikipediaIt has been an unusual week.  I have had my stepson here since Saturday and it hasn't been a bad thing.  He has really grown up since I was pulling my hair out a few years ago.  Now onto things that have made me smile.

1.  I have been really lucky at work and won both a FlipCam and a Keurig Coffee system.  And of course my husband has adopted both of them.

2.  A girlfriend that I don't get to see a lot of is coming over tomorrow for our monthly potluck.

3.  There is much less tension in the house since the roommate that didn't get along with my husband has moved out. I didn't really realize just how bad it was until I didn't have to play peacemaker between them anymore

BSBP Goodies!!

My goodies arrived today and I am totally blown away with the thought that Skye put into the ingredients.  What I really loved is the hand-written letter I got that explains all of her choices.   I can already tell that I am going to have lots of fun with this soup or should I say soups.  I am going to end up with at least three probably four or five different servings here.

And without further ado here are some pics of my 'ingredients'.

Random Thoughts

    • I just think that is the neatest picture.  Love the blend of colors.  Would make for an interesting necklace.
    • Stepson is here for a couple weeks.  He has really grown up especially as I haven't seen him for a couple years.
    • Husband wants to keep him but I am not sure what I will do with a kid around.  I have never had to worry doing things like school enrollment.
    • Was looking forward to a nice peaceful morning with no one else awake.  But then the DH woke up early.  No fair.
    • Looks like a pretty day.  Could I kick them out?  Send them down to the waterfront perhaps.
    • Roommate has some issues that need to be dealt with.  Hope that it all works out.
    • Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day.  Perhaps summer is peeking out again.
    • Boo is much happier now that we have been able to remove the cone collar.
    • Think that today is designated a day to drone and relax.  It is has been too long since I have had that and I really need to recharge.

BSBP Hidden Ingredients

My package of ingredients are on their way to my swap partner.  I have to admit that I couldn't decide just what to send so I included lots of choices.  I found out that it won't be hard to challenge my partner, Skye of Creative Chaos.  She has a thing about only using beads that she has chosen so it will be really fun to see just what she comes up with.

Beautiful Things

Small tomatoes in KoreaImage via WikipediaTime to list some things that made me smile this week and it has been a trying week with the plumbing issues on Sunday.  Thankfully the rest of the week improved.

1.  Tomatoes!  I have never grown tomatoes before and I was pretty sure that my attempt this year failed.  However all the sun we got last week really helped and I have tomatoes.  Now as to whether they will get enough sun to turn red is another question.  Maybe I need to look up recipes for green tomatoes.

2.  Friends.  When my plumbing went out, I immediately called Dustin.  He took charge and dealt with the situation though he did have to be reined in a couple times.  I had help with the reining from another friend that came out to help.  Times like that really shows you who your friends are.

3.  My cat Monster.  He has been escaping and staying out all night lately so we have grounded him.  Some of his antics to find a way outside are really amusing.

Allegory Gallery Fundraiser

One of the kindest and most helpful people in the jewelry community is in the process of opening up a gallery.  The aim of Allegory Gallery is to promote artisan craftspeople, inspire the community to explore their creativity, and act as a focal point for classes and artistic education.  However the numbers aren't crunching quite right so he is having a fundraiser.

He is also giving away some unique items to contributors.  To learn more about this fundraiser just click here.

A little bit of this..a little bit of that...

Photo of metal beadsImage via WikipediaNah..time for a different batch.  Now where to start?

I am actually really excited.  I found out who my swap partner for Bead Soup Blog Party is!  It's Skye from Creative Chaos!  I just love the name of her blog probably because I love chaos though I am finding lately that my muse is getting staid and loves order.  Probably because everything else is so chaotic.

In looking thru Skye's blog though I did decide that the ingredients that I have out just wouldn't work.  There wouldn't be that nudge out of her comfort zone.  So back to the drawing board.

Thinking something cool...perhaps organic.  Take a look at her blog and throw out some ideas.  I know that I am going to have fun going thru my pretties.  Just as soon as I can get into my studio.  Remember that flood.  Well everything was moved around and I can't get in it.

Times Three

They say that everything comes in threes especially when we are talking bad news.  And ours hit last night.  I guess that I should really be glad that it waited until we got home before hitting because we were down in Portland at a Shiba Meetup and it would have been really bad to break down there.

But as we got home, I discovered that our router is toast.  In a household where wireless rules, this really sucks.  I did manage to get on for a while last night but I was constantly asking my husband if we wanted on.   And I felt guilty about using it while he couldn't but he was pretty happy watching Dr. Who.  So was I for that matter.  Reading blogs and watching the Dr.  Any other Dr. Who fans?  Thank goodness for friends.  I am borrowing a router til payday.

Next we lost a cat.  I have a really strange cat that obeys curfews.   He stays in either our yard or the yard of the vacant house next door.  We have never really worried about him because he behaves those rules religiously.  Until last night.  When it was 8:00pm, I step out into the backyard and no Monster.  I called him and no Monster.  Deja' showed up and made very sure that I knew that he was home.  Went out and searched the neighborhood with no luck.  I ended up sleeping on the couch and waking up every couple hours to call him.  He finally made it home around 7 this morning.

And the last and hopefully final thing to blow up was the plumbing.  We got a clog between the house and the city's sewer pipes.  This house thankfully has a warranty on it but they couldn't get anyone out right away so my roommate (who does all the maintenance around here) decided to call a plumber and we will get reimbursed.  I haven't heard how that has gone yet.

Next comes the fun part.  There is a lot of water down there and it needs cleaned out.  I have to call my insurance company tomorrow and see if they will cover it.  I work down there and Dustin's room is down there along with my studio.  I can't have mold growing down there.  I have already had some nasty experiences with mold.  Not again thank you very much.

I would just like to really know who I pissed off this week....

 I would kust l

Almost...almost..

I have been looking thru drawers and bins trying to decide on just the perfect ingredients for the perfect soup.  A little too much of this and not enough of that just won't work.  Stick around and I will be posting some teasers as I decide.

Contest: Video Class and Gorgeous Pendant

Do you like learning online?  I have to admit that I do but I find that I really prefer DVDs so that I don't have to have my computer handy.  And there is a wonderful contest over at Gaea Ceramic Bead and Art Studio which includes just such a class and the wonderful pictured above.  Be sure to check it out.

Beautiful Things

Reuben Knoblauch Heritage Park, Sumner, Washin...Image via WikipediaYep it's Friday again and for some reason this week has really gone by quickly.  I would have missed this post for sure if I didn't have my reminders set up as it really feels like Thursday.

1.  Sumner.  I had to take my roommate out there on Wednesday and it is a beautiful little town with lots of antique stores.  I am going to have to go back and really explore.  I had BeiJing with me so I didn't..this time around.

2.  My closet!  I don't know that happened last night but I had a burst of energy and along with cleaning up the kitchen and making potato salad, I cleaned out my closet.  I can't believe how much space I have now.  Don't tell my hubby but now I have fill it back up.  This time though with clothes that fit.

3.  My weight.  This relates to #2.  One reason that my closet is so empty is that a good portion of the clothes don't fit any longer.  I knew that I had lost weight but it really hits when I try on some clothes from a few years ago and they hang on me.  Especially the dresses.  I don't tend to wear dresses because my job no longer requires it especially since I work at home.  Now I just need to find a sexy black dress....no wait... I am not wearing black anymore but a sexy brown dress just doesn't sound the same.

Treating yourself

A small tea pot filled with loose leaf OolongImage via WikipediaIn order to stay sane in today's world, it really is necessary to take time out of the busy week and treat yourself.  It really does help to recharge the batteries.

My favorite way to treat myself is to brew up a pot of really good oolong tea and see what comes after.  Today I have the house to myself so I am getting a chance to catch up on my blogs.  Very peaceful and relaxing, at least until the dogs start barking.  Other times I go down to my studio and play.  Or I might be reading a really good book.  Or dreaming over a jewelry guide.  Right now it happens to be one on micro-macrame for jewelry.

There are a couple common themes in all of them though.  I am usually along or in my own world and brewing that pot of tea is always the first step.

My question to you is what do you do when you take time out for yourself?

Tea Time

Ever just sat around and had words just pop up in your mind?  I kept seeing the word serenity and then it morphed to tea time.  Though the fact that I am savoring a really fine Dong Ding oolong from American Tea Room might have had something to do with that.  And then I got to wondering just what kinda of...well... wonders that I can find.

So be prepared for a longer post as I show you what I find.

Is this just the cutest towel?  I wouldn't mind a couple of them.

Mishap's Odds and ends

Now I just love this.  I have the perfect place for it, right next to my china cabinet full of teapots

Capricious Arts
I am so in love with this teapot.  I just love the color and well it is a larger pot.  I tend to go thru a least a gallon of hot tea a day.

OCPottery

I have to admit that I am attracted to steampunk but I still want it to be original.

JansJems
I love these but I am not too sure how they would work in my home.  At any given time, I have between 20 to 70 different teas.  But perhaps for a friend...  And I just love the color.
