Book Review: Tamed

Werewolves are real. And they make excellent pets.

Owning one of the legendary creatures is the latest fad. The WereHouse insists their werepets are loyal, docile, and 100% safe, but what happens when these gentle giants turn on their masters?

While on a routine EMS call, paramedic Christine Alt is attacked by a rogue werepet. She escapes with her life, but the encounter leaves her with more than just scars. As her body begins to change, she discovers the WereHouse is hiding a terrible secret, and they will stop at nothing to keep her from exposing them.

One of the downsides of purchasing or reviewing ebooks is that you are never quite sure just what you are getting into.  A great blurb can lead to a boring book and vice versa.  I consider myself lucky when an interesting blurb leads to an interesting book.  And TAMED is an interesting book.

It has be one of the more unique books that I have ran across in the paranormal/werewolf genre.  Rather then having the weres be a proud people, they are pets that don't remember their past.  There are those occassional rogues but they are taken care of quickly before they rock the boat.  That is until Christine is infected while out on an emergency call.

I enjoyed both of the main love interests in TAMED but I don't really feel as though I got a chance to really get to know them because there were so many different story lines happening in this book.  All the story lines do get wrapped up by the end of the book but I think that I would have enjoyed the book more if Mr. Brown had instead concentrated on just a couple.   That would have allowed more time for the characters to grow.  As it stands now, I find that the love between the two main characters just wasn't that believable.

That being said, I did enjoy TAMED and will be keeping an eye out for future works from Mr. Brown.  I do recommend this book to any of my readers looking for a new take on the werewolf legends though I do want to impart a gentle warning about the violence in this book.  I rate this book a 3.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.  All opinions expressed within are my own.

Halloween/ Day of the Dead Blog Hop

Halloween happens to be my favorite holiday so when Diana of Suburban Girls Studio announced she was doing a hop all about Halloween how could I possibly resist.   And what is fits the season better then spooky spiders?  Well besides pumpkins and witches.

Don't you just love the spooky spider focal that was made by Jenny Davies-Reazor?  And it all comes together with both botswanna and black agates.  And yes I had fun with the special effects but the necklace did start out black and white.

Now that you have seen my contribution, be sure to check out what everyone else has come up with.

Autumn Blog Hop

When a friend of mine, Rita of Jewel School Friends, was having a blog hop to celebrate Autumn I just couldn't resist.  Now I live here in the Puget Sound region of Washington state and we have mainly pine trees so I can't show you the beautiful colors of this season so instead I decided to show you a bit of what it means to me.

First comes first, I am a boot addict.  A lot of women have hoards of shoes, for me instead it is boots.  I would have hoards but they take up much more space then shoes so I only have ten pairs (so far).  And this is the season when I get to bring them out as well as my sweaters.

I also get to decorate my altar for autumn.  This isn't the sharpest pic and I do apologize for that.  It protects itself and for the life of me, I couldn't get a better one.

This is also the time of year where things quiet down.  I find that I spend more time reading a book or spending time in my studio.  If there is one stone that bring together the colors of the season it would have to be unikite.  I wire wrapped some of it together with brass wire and a brass focal to create a lanyard for my e-cigarette.

Since I do tend to wear a lot of greens this season, I also made these earrings to wear using a dyed agate along with copper findings.

And last for but not least is a necklace I made using polymer beads from Tree Wings Studio and a boro glass focal from an unknown artist.

So what does this time of the year mean to you?  Do you love all the festivities that are about to start or is this your time of the year to hibernate?  Well now that you have had a chance to check out my thoughts be sure to click on the links below to see what these wonderful people love about this season.

6th Do Over Challenge

I have been reading about these 'do over' challenges where Jeannie from We! The People will send you out one or two pieces of jewelry and you get to come up with a new design.  I was lucky enough to be able to take part this time.  The rules state that you need to take a picture of necklace that you are sent (oops) and use at least 50% of the original piece.

Well as you probably guessed, I messed up on the first part.  I was so excited that I tore apart the first necklace and then remembered that I needed to take a before shot.  Luckily I actually got two chances to do it right.  I did want to show off my first design though.  It was made to hold one of the e-cigarettes.   The beautiful green adventurine beads are from the necklace sent to me by Jeannie.  The lampwork bead is from StudioJuls.

Now I did much better on this second piece.  I actually took a picture first!  What struck me first about this design was not the focal at all, instead it was the beautiful chain.  Yeah I am kinda a chain junkie.  So since the chain consisted of 50% of the design...  well you get the picture.  No?  Well here it is.

I also used the beautiful smoky quartz that were part of the earrings that went with the original necklace.  I added in a focal made by Lea of LA Jewelry Designs.  I just love all the colors that come to life in that focal and felt it looked best hanging off of some gorgeous chain.

I have worn both several times and have gotten several compliments on them.  Which one do you prefer?

Now that you have seen my offerings, be sure to stop by the rest of the participants to see what they came up with.  I am sure that you will come across some real show stoppers.
