Book Review: Night Study

Ever since being kidnapped from the Illiais Jungle as a child, Yelena Zaltana's life has been fraught with peril. But the recent loss of her Soulfinding abilities has endangered her more than ever before. As she desperately searches for a way to reclaim her magic, her enemies are closing in, and neither Ixia nor Sitia is safe for her anymore. Especially since the growing discord between the two countries and the possibility of a war threatens everything Yelena holds dear.

Valek is determined to protect Yelena, but he's quickly running out of options. The Commander suspects that his loyalties are divided, and he's been keeping secrets from Valek…secrets that put him, Yelena and all their friends in terrible danger. As they uncover the various layers of the Commander's mysterious plans, they realize it's far more sinister than they could have ever imagined.

Ms. Snyder is one of my favorite authors in the fantasy genre and I tend to snap up her books as soon as they come available.  She always does an incredible job with her world building and characters. Somehow though I managed to miss the first book in this series though I am happy to say that NIGHT STUDY was written in such a way that I was able to very much enjoy the story without feeling that I was missing anything.

Totally in love with all of the characters.  Yelena is under a lot of stress because she has lost her magic and might be pregnant.  Oh and she has had people trying to kill her.  Valek, her heart mate, is being torn between keeping her safe and his Commander whom he has sworn loyalty too.  And I can't forget Janco who just happens to be my favorite character.  He is a clown but devoted to Valek and Yelena.

Ms. Snyder has done her usual excellent job with building this world and we are able to peep behind the screen to see just what political maneuvering is being done to keep both Sitia and Ixia safe.  Not too much time is spent on the scenery as the plot races along at a breakneck speed.

I highly recommend NIGHT STUDY to any of my readers who enjoy a good fantasy.  This one has it all; danger, treachery, magic, friendship & love.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.  All opinions expressed within are my own
