Book Review: Shift

Nothing shines like classic cars under the Miami heat. With engines revving hot and emotions running high, sparks are sure to fly . . .

Tori Chazov isn't exactly the girl next door. For one, if the neighbors found out she's an FBI asset and the daughter of a KGB defector, she'd have to grab her go bag and run. Then there's her day job: making magic happen under the hood of big beautiful muscle cars. She's more likely to be wearing engine grease than mascara, and most guys don't fantasize about their mechanics.

But then most girls don't fantasize about FBI tech geniuses, either, and Tori has it bad for Emery Martin. Emery has a past. She can see it in the way he keeps his body honed like a weapon, in the mysterious scars under his snap-button shirts. She can see it in the way his eyes follow her around the room, even though he never says a word.

He's going to have to start talking now, though. A vicious Russian hit squad is on the way to Miami to take Tori out for good. And without Emery's help, she might not make her last great escape . . .

* * * * *

I have always had a soft spot for fast cars and hot men.  Goes back to my younger days when I most definitely had a lead foot and will always love a sexy man especially one who knows his way around computer.

And if he always happens to know his way around a woman's body so much the better. Emery is definitely not what one thinks of as a geek as he can also get down and dirty with his hands or a gun.  And he will use whatever is needed to keep Tori safe.  When he finds out that there is a hit team on her tail, they take off to lay low and to heat things up.

I enjoyed reading SHIFT.  Tori is a great heroine who is spunky and far from ladylike.  Her father raised her and her twin to survive using any means necessary. And the sparks that fly when she teams up with Emery were almost enough to overheat my tablet.

The pacing is quick and just as soon as one question gets answered, another five pop up.  This book is sure to hold a reader's attention.  The characters are well developed and the dialogue is fast and furious.  I do recommend this book to any of my readers who also enjoy hot cars, hotter men and a mystery that keeps on going.  I can hardly wait for the next book so I can get some more of my questions answered.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.  All opinions expressed within are my own.
