I sure hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, or at least my American blog buddies.  Only about half the people that we were expecting were actually able to show but it was a wonderful time for all.  And the best part according to my husband and roommate is that we ended up with lots of leftovers.  That could be a good thing.  To use up some said leftovers, I made up a recipe that I have never tried.  I made up a turkey pot pie and you know it was pretty good.  My previous experiences with pot pies have been Swanson and this was much better.

Along with the great food and company, this time of year always makes me think of the things that I am thankful for.  I usually like one a day on Facebook but I decided to list them here even though I am a bit late.  But really can you be late on being thankful? So here it goes.

  • My dear husband.  I know that he is there to support me thru thick and thin
  • My friends.  I tend to not make many but the one that I do I treasure.  It is thru one of them that I was able to find this wonderful house.
  • My house.  Last year at this time I was in a house that the wind blew thru.  This year looks to be much colder and I don't think that I would have survived with my fibro in the old place.  Not only that but for the first time in forever, I finally feel as though this is a home.
  • My animals for their pure unconditional love and companionship.  When I am down and hurting, I can't think of anyone better to have beside me.
  • My job.  To have any is good in this economy but I am lucky enough to have one that I actually enjoy.
  • The sense of community that I get from the blogging world.  As I mentioned, I tend to be rather shy in person so I really appreciate the friends that I have made online.
  • The fact that we are able to afford to have leftovers on thanksgiving.
  • My health.  I might have a chronic condition but it is not one that if life threatening.
  • My mother and my stepfather Don.  I am horrible at keeping in touch but I know that if I needed them they would be there.
I know that there is so much more but those are the biggies.  Thank you for allowing me share them.

Giveaway: Fresh Water??

One thing that I quickly learned after buying my house is that you don't want to drink the water.  I mean seriously we even have to filter the animal's water as it comes out yellow.  We do use the PUR water pitchers and the faucet filters but I have to change the filters every 2 weeks.  That tends to get expensive so you can imagine how excited I was to see a contest at Momma Told Me about giveaway of Zuvo Filtration System.

Book Review: Luck of the Wolf

Branded an outcast by the noble branch of his werewolf clan, Cort Renier had come to San Francisco seeking fortune - and revenge. What he found was a mysterious beauty who could not - or would not - reveal who she truly was. At first glance she seemed vulnerable and afraid, like so many girls caught in the debauchery of the city's whiskey-soaked gambling dens. But one look into her stunning turquoise eyes and he knew he'd found the winning hand.

Aria di Reinardus had reasons of her own for concealing her identity, but Cort's kisses were more than enough to convince her to go along with his plans to transform her into a missing heiress and return her to her "family". But they were not the only ones with secrets to keep and vengeance in mind, and they were about to discover that some destinies couldn't be outrun...

I just love to find new to me author especially when I enjoy their work.  I love reading paranormal and I love the canines yet I find that I am usually drawn to the vampires.  And the reason why is I have found that most of the authors of werewolves seem to forget that they will have those instincts.  Or if they do remember you can tell that they haven't done their research.  Imagine my delight to discover Ms. Krinard's work.  A lot of her werewolves want to forget that they have those instincts due to society but they are still there.  I really want to give her kudos for that.

Okay now that I have gotten one of my pet peeves out of the way time to discuss this book in particular.   This book didn't reach out and grab me by the throat at the beginning.  Instead it was a long slow slide into pleasure.  I did find the villein to be rather one dimensional though I did truly love the main characters along with Aria's tutor Babette.  I was also slightly disappointed in the ending as it seemed the wrap up was rather rushed.

This book is a mix of both the wonderful and the not so wonderful.  All in all, it does tip the scales to the wonderful side.  I really did enjoy the reading so I do recommend it to lovers of the paranormal.  Also there are some sex scenes but nothing too explicit.

I rate this book a 3.4.

Black Friday

Black Friday (1940 film)Image via WikipediaSo how about it?  Is anyone going to brave the crowds this Friday for those great deals?  Perhaps camping out to get items in short supply?  Or waiting until the click of midnight and hitting the online sales?

I have to admit that I am chicken.  I did the Black Friday sales once and I came home with so many bumps and bruises that I swore never again.  I have friends that swear by them but what funny is the fact that everyone that does is taller then 5'7".  I wonder if they are just intimidating enough that no one tries to run them over.  At my 5'1" I just don't look mean enough.

Book Review: Kiss Me Kill Me

bA long-ago act of kindness to a desperate woman changed Dr. Carrie Overton's life forever. Before disappearing into the night, the grateful stranger left her newborn son for Carrie to raise.  When the woman is later found murdered, the secret becomes Carrie's alone.

She has kept both it and her son, Sam, safe for sixteen years.  But now a friend of Sam's has gone missing.

The police in quaint, quiet Shadow Falls, Vermont, believe he's a runaway - until he's found dead and another teen disappears, and talk turns to that long-ago murder.

I am impressed.  This story has so many layers of mysteries that it takes a bit to wind your way thru them all.  But don't feel as though it is time wasted as this is one very enjoyable book.

Shadow's Fall will remind you of any number of people in a small town, one that get inundated with tourists  during certain time of the year.  Just like any small town, the locals all know each other and look out for each other.  What surprised me about these locals is that there was no finger pointing when a boy was found dead, not even at the tourists.  These are all people that I would be happy to call friends.  Well maybe not all...

Romantic suspense happens to be one of my favorite genres yet somehow I have never ran across Maggie Shayne.  This is an issue that has been corrected and I will definitely buy up all of her backlist also.   If you also enjoy this genre, then I highly recommend picking up this book.

I rate this book a 4.3.

There are just some things that fit into that category and this is one of them.  I got home from work Monday night and my parking was blocked by huge pipes.  Not only that but there is a port-a-pottie in my front yard.  They are digging up the road to lay a new water main.  It just might be worth the inconvenience if it mean that I would get better way but noooo.  Our water main is down the alley.

Random Thoughts

DragonImage by wili_hybrid via FlickrWow.  I hadn't realized that it's been a week since I popped in.  Sorry about that.  I will have to do better the rest of the month.  Now sure just where the time went.

Hmmm.. I really did try to add a picture but the powers that be decided otherwise.  I wanted to show off our new door knocker.  We managed to find one that is a blue dragon and since my hubby loves dragons..  Well there you go,.

Finally have my studio set up downstairs.  Now I just have to kidnap my stereo back from my DH so that I can listen to my podcasts when I am down there.  I was down there finishing the organizing last night when the power went out.  I had to wind my way upstairs to find a flashlight.  Poor Boo was just sitting there on the loveseat shaking when I made it back down.

I love windstorms and I wanted to go out in the one last night but the hubby refused to let me.  Said something along the line that he doesn't want my life insurance that badly.

Housewarming party went smoothly.  My first party.  One down and one to go.  We invited a house full of folks over for Thanksgiving.  Can you believe that it's next week.  Again where does the time go?  What kind of plans does everyone have for it?

I hope that everyone has a great day!

Brightest Blessings!

Allegra Fairweather here. Paranormal investigator. Got problems with specters? Shapeshifters? I'm the woman to call. Just don't call me a Ghostbuster. The last guy who did that ended up flat on his back with my boot at his throat.

With my 99.5% success rate, solving the mystery of a bleeding rose that has sprung up on the shores of Loch Furness should have been an easy gig. But already I've heard the shriek of the local banshee, discovered two bodies (and then lost two bodies), and had a near-death encounter with a three-hundred-year-old ghost. And perhaps most dangerous of all, the hot pub owner who hired me now wants to show me exactly what's under his kilt.

This is actually the first book that I have had the pleasure of reading from Carina Press and to say that I am pleased with the quality of their authors is an understatement.  Carina Press is an e-book division of Harlequin books and the care they taken with the books shines thru.

ALLEGRA FAIRWEATHER:  PARANORMAL INVESTIGATOR is a book that will grab you from the very first page.  Allegra is a heroine that shows no fear even when she goes into dangerous situations.  Of course, it does help that she has a beyond hot guardian angel, Casper.  After meeting him, I am really bummed out that I also don't have one assigned to me.  Ms Nell does a fantastic of job characterizations on both her main and her secondary characters.  They all just jump off the pages to come join you in your living room.

As you can tell, I really enjoyed this book and am crossing my fingers that this is the start of a great series.  I rate this book a 4.2.

I received this book compliments of netGallery in exchange for a review.  No money changed hands and the opinions are entirely my own.

I really couldn't decided whether to call this post roundup or randomness.  So believe it or not, I flipped a coin.  And well you can see what won.  So here are just some random thoughts.

I really wanted to thank Lori Anderson of Pretty Things.  She recently had a drawing on her website (and yes I told everyone here about it and guess what I won.  Lori has some designs in this book and let me tell you there are some gorgeous designs shown.  After paging thru it last night, I was itching to get downstairs and start creating.  Do you think that the guys would notice if I did that when I got home?

I couldn't resist.  I had to stick my toes back into the publishing sector.  I am working for Silver Publishing at a proofreader.  It's nice. I am still catching the errors but after an editor and the author have worked it over with a fine tooth comb.  They have some great books but just as warning, they are rather hot & sexy.

I am so glad that I have tomorrow off.  Of course the husband has plans for running around tomorrow.  He just doesn't seem to understand that when I am working 10+ hour days that I need that day off to recharge.  Aw well.  I do want to pick up a table and it would be even bonus if we are able to get it delivered before the house party.

House Party.  Aw yes I am finally doing one.  I am not too sure that my friend Liz would let me get away with not having one.  Of course she has to do the planning and perhaps goat roping me to a chair so that I can run away and hide..  But that gemmie has been calling my name.  I swear it Liz.

Fall weather is so strange.  Last Wednesday was 70+ degrees,  I don't think that it got above 40 yesterday.  Is fall/winter over yet?

Well I sure that hope that everyone's week is going grand!

Brightest Blessings!

One of those days....

Lately I have seriously been pushing myself too hard.  I know that for me to function well, I need to have at least one day where I don't leave the house.  Where I am able to be curled up with a good book or my computer to give my muscles a chance to recover.   With moving our roommate in and all, I just haven't had the chance.  And then there was today.

I had plans for the second Sunday of every month.  I go to the Witch's Brew and then TERRA's board meeting.  This second Sunday, I had made additional plans to go check out another magickal group before the brew.  Well when I showed up no one was there.  So I just shrugged it off and figured that the time change had thrown everyone off.  So I spent that time shopping at Walmart since I had a gift card from there.  Then I went the Brew and no one was there.  I was really starting to annoyed about this time.  It wasn't until I was driving home that it occurred to me that it is the first Sunday of the month.  Le sigh.

Sometimes I really wonder about myself.

Happy New Year!

I am estimating that about half of my readers are looking at this post strangely and thinking that I have lost my marbles.  After all it isn't anywhere close to January 1st, well maybe kinda close but still...  The other half know exactly what I am talking about.  Last night was Samhain which is the end of the Pagan year.    And what a great way to blow out a year with a chance to both talk to your ancestors and to put a smile on kid's face when you give them a treat.

This upcoming year looks to be actually on track.  I did get accepted for one of the @home positions so I should be working out of a basement bedroom before Thanksgiving.  We (my DH & myself) are cleaning up our credit so that we can actually purchase our home.  Thank the Goddess for a good friend that is allowing us to do a rent to own until we can.

I didn't accomplish all of my goals for last year, at least my personal ones.  I am right on track with my professional goals but slacking on the other side.  I am right on track with my goal for this blog though. I made a commitment to have at least 200 posts by December 31, 2010.  I also have an online shop thru Artfire.  I don't have anything in it yet but I do have it.

Things that I didn't accomplish due to illness and moving are getting pushed forward to complete this year.  I plan on setting up my shop on AF and improving my picture skill even if it takes me 1000 pics just to get a good one.  I also plan on taking some more classes this upcoming year so that I can improve my design skills.  There is actually an online jewelry course that I am interested in.  We shall see about that one though.

Oh a lighter note, did you buy enough candy for all the kids or way too much?  At my house we had way too much as we didn't get any kids.  So I am having to hide it from the hubby.
