Book Review: Motor City Witch

She'd left magic behind
Once upon a time, Elise Sutton had been a powerful witch and paranormal enforcer. Once she'd been madly in love with Fae lord Aidan Greene. But when Aidan had considered his duties more important than their relationship, the love affair ended badly. Shortly after, while on the hunt for a rogue demon, Elise was brutalized and almost killed. Months later she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. To protect her child-and her heart-Elise decided to live a nonmagical life.

Until she meets Aidan again, and he assumes Dina is his daughter. When Dina is kidnapped by a racial purity movement, Elise turns to Aidan for help. The icy facade she has built around herself shatters at Aidan's touch. Together they have to hunt through the human and faery worlds to find Dina...and to discover whether or not they have any kind of chance at a happily ever after.

Wow! This book caught me from the very first page.  Independent Elise, who is raising her daughter on her own, never wanted Aiden to know about her.  And when he finally sees Dina, she is kidnapped that night.  Aiden and Elise must work together to save her (and possibly his) daughter.

This book is a fast paced romantic suspense that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat.  Not only do Elise and Aiden have to rescue Dina, but they have to face their feelings for each other.  This book was equally powerful in the fight scenes as it was in love scenes.

Ms. Pape also does a wonderful job with her characterizations and world building.  I would love to see more stories set in this world and several of the secondary characters are just begging for their stories to be told.

I highly recommend MOTOR CITY WITCH to anyone that loves a paranormal romantic suspense.  In this case all the ingredients come together in a very enjoyable fashion.

I rate this book a 4.

Book Review: These Things Hidden

Allison Glenn tried to hide what happened that night...and failed.
The consequence? Five years in prison. Now she’s free. But secrets have a way of keeping you imprisoned.

When Allison Glenn is sent to prison for a heinous crime, she leaves behind her reputation as Linden Falls’s golden girl forever. Her parents deny the existence of their once-perfect child. Her former friends exult in her downfall. Her sister, Brynn, faces the whispered rumors every day in the hallways of their
small Iowa high school. It’s Brynn—shy, quiet Brynn—who carries the burden of what really happened that night. All she wants is to forget Allison and the past that haunts her.

But then Allison is released to a halfway house, and is more determined than ever to speak with her sister.

Now their legacy of secrets is focused on one little boy. And if the truth is revealed, the consequences will be unimaginable for the adoptive mother who loves him, the girl who tried to protect him and the two sisters who hold the key to all that is hidden.

I went into this book with no expectations.  I do love suspense novel but the one that I read tend to be more immediate and quite often have a touch of romance.  But this novel doesn't.  It deals with secrets from five years and the changes that it has wrought in the lives of four women.

I was rather impressed by how Ms. Gudenkauf weaves these tale so intricately.  The present and the past blends seamlessly though there are times when the details bog down the story especially in the beginning.  It is well worth pushing through those instances though.  The story keeps getting better the deeper you go.

I ended up being rather impressed by the book though I don't know how often I will delve into the genre.  For readers that enjoy adult fiction, I highly recommend THOSE THINGS HIDDEN.

Three Beautiful Things Part 4

Wow.  This week has certainly moved quickly.  I am not to sure about that in some ways but I can tell you that I am sure looking forward to Memorial Day weekend.  And here are my beautiful things for this week.

1. My husband.  I know that I list him a lot but things have been changing so much for the better.  He is becoming so much more comfortable in his own skin and it is really effecting our relationship in a positive manner.

2.  My muse.  She has come back and I am totally loving it!  I made two necklaces this week that I love.

3.  Our new roommate.  Dustin is very clever with his hands and he has really been fixing things up around here in exchange for rent.  He is also a very good fit for our household and having a male friend has been good for the hubby.

Productive Times

I have been really slacking on my jewelry even though I now have a dedicated studio.  One thing that I discovered is that it is darn cold in there during the winter.  Next year I am definitely going to get one of those larger heaters so that my hands don't freeze.

However now that it is warming up, I have started to get back into the groove.  I have finished up a couple necklaces.  One will be for stock for when I finally get my storefront set up and the other is to donate to a silent auction for a friend that is trying to raise money for a service dog for her daughter.

I actually feel as though I have accomplished something in completing those.  This winter I have been working on some kumihino however I haven't finished the ends on any of those.

I haven't taken any pics yet but I will be sure to do so and share them with you all.

Have a great day!

Ask and ye shall recieve

I have to admit that I am horrible about setting goals.  I tend to fly by the seat of my pants most times and it all works out.  For work however my supervisor had me set up goals including one personal goal.

My goal was to do some work on the house.  It does need to have the drywall finished in the basement and a few other things.  And less then a week after that, a friend called and asked if I had room for a friend of hers that lost his place in exchange for work about the house.

Things like that just make me go hmmmmm.  Perhaps the universe it telling me that I really need to set up more goals.

Oh and the pic is of one disgruntled Deja'.  He really hates having his picture taken.

Three Beautiful Things Part 3

I have been getting this posts ready on Thursdays and scheduling them to post on Fridays.  Well this week my days have gotten confused since I spent a few days on Perkoset due to my fall.  Oh on the fall, I bruised some muscles and my pelvic bone but nothing was broken.  Now onto my beautiful things.

1.  My flower bed.  It is the first time that I have tried to plant one and now that we are getting some beautiful weather, it is really starting to come up.  I can hardly wait to see the flowers.

2.  My husband.  He likes people for the most part but he gets enough of them at his job since he works retail.  So when he gets home, he really doesn't want to see anyone but me.  Yet when a friend asked us if we could provide a room for one of her friends in exchange for some work around the house, he immediately agreed.

3.  The weather!  We are finally getting some pretty weather.  It took long enough to arrive but we have finally had a day in the 70's.  It looks like we might have another today and I am sure hoping that tomorrow cooperates as we are planning a BBQ.

What part of Urgent don't you understand???

Well it finally happened.  The stairs down to my basement are rather steep and I managed to fall down them.  Slide down them actually on my back.  I ended up bruised and I think that I did something to my hip.  So I called out of work and woke my hubby up to take me into Urgent Care.

Well apparently Group Health doesn't consider anything to be urgent unless it is after 3:00pm.  Before that time you are out of luck.  I did finally manage to get a same day appointment with my doctor but seriously.  Don't they understand what Urgent means?

Friday the 13th

Happy or should it be merry Friday the 13th.  I have to admit that this is one day when I have always been traditionally been pretty lucky.  I love to go out and play bingo or hit the slot machines when I can afford it.

It has always amazed me that there are people that are afraid of this day.  Apparently there are enough of them that this phobia even has its own name 'friggatriskaidekaphobia'.  Now if that isn't a mouth full.  Also it looks as though this is a rather new superstition as there is no mention of it prior to the 19th century.

I managed to find lots of neat facts about this day here.

So are you going to stay at home and wait out this day or it it a signal to be lucky to you?

10 Years

Today is my anniversary and I want to thank my wonderful husband for ten years of together.  Some have been wonderful and some have been trying but I wouldn't give any of them up.  Our marriage just keeps getting better and better.  I am really looking forward to whatever the future brings as long as we face it together.

I love you Saje.

Three Beautiful Things Part 2

((For some reason this didn't post when it was supposed to.  So forgive the lateness of the post))

I just love the idea of coming up with three beautiful things each week.  It really causes me to sit and reflect over the last week.  This last week though it was pretty easy to come up with them.

1.  A totally beautiful May Day or Beltaine.  The weather was absolutely perfect and the ritual went well.  We even had a sign from the Goddess at just the right time.

2.  Being handfasted to my husband at the above mentioned ritual.  I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate our 10th anniversary which is coming up this Monday.

3.  Seeing some sprouts in my first flower bed.  I thought that I had messed it up but I guess that they just took a while to get started.

What a weekend!

Ever had one of those weekends that you need a vacation to recover from?  That's how mine went.  It was a good weekend just a rather busy one.

Saturday I got up early to go get my nails done, then we went to clean out the car and fill up the propane tank.  Part of it went according to plans but I didn't know that propane tanks could expire.  So nix on the propane.  That we had to pick up Sunday morning,  Then we went up to Snoqualmie Falls to work on editing that book.  I am not getting paid for the work I am doing but the author does spring for some neat scenery.  So we spent the day up there and ended up getting home around 10.

The next day again we were up bright and early.  It was the day for TERRA's Beltaine celebration and I was the Priestess so I had to be sure to that I was there on time and actually alert.  The day was gorgeous and the ritual went beautifully.  We had a lot of new people there which is always a great thing.

We did have to leave early as my husband did have to work that evening.  I actually am glad that we had to as I would have stayed and played all day then regretted it later.  When I got home, I discovered just how much energy I had put out during the ritual and I ended up taking a nap for a couple hours.  And then I was in bed a little bit after 9.

So what fun things did you do this weekend?
