Book Review: All the Beautiful Brides

A young woman lies dead at the bottom of a waterfall, dressed in a wedding gown with a rose stem jammed down her throat. And in the small town of Graveyard Falls, the horrifying vision stirs a long-ago nightmare back to life…

FBI Special Agent Cal Coulter gets called in to investigate the murder, which bears a terrifying resemblance to a series of killings committed thirty years ago: three teenage girls were found dead at the waterfall’s base, all bearing rose stems in their throats. But the high school football star was convicted and imprisoned for those murders, leading Cal to suspect that the killer is still out there.

Now, the body count is rising again. The monster’s sights are set on counselor Mona Monroe, Cal’s best friend’s widow…and the woman he’s always loved. Can Cal stop the killer before Mona becomes the next victim?

I do have to admit that romantic suspense is one of the genres that I can become engrossed in.  A good one will keep me on the edge of my seat as I start to care more and more about what happens to the character.  It will keep me guessing about just who the villain really is while I start to understand his or her motivations.

ALL THE BEAUTIFUL BRIDES does this and more.  By the end of the book while I was happy that the villain had been stopped, I actually felt sorry for the him because of the circumstances that formed him. I also really related to both Mona and Cal and the circumstances that formed them.  Ms. Herron does a wonderful job of filling us in on their backgrounds without their pasts intruding on the current storyline.

Graveyard Falls is also an interesting town that reminds me of places I have lived in the past.  It is a place where its past has really formed its future.  While we aren't given the chance to really get to know its inhabitants very well in this book, I have hopes that the next book which is set in the same location will change that.

I feel that  ALL THE BEAUTIFUL BRIDES is a great start to a series that I will be keeping an eye out for.  I feel that any of my readers that enjoy Romantic Suspense will enjoy this series by such a seasoned author.
